The Akashi Bridge is located in the western part of Tarumi District, Kōbe City, Hyōgo Prefecture.
If you’re coming from Tōkyō you have to reach Nishi-Akashi Station by Shinkansen first. The Nozomi Shinkansen doesn’t stop at this station.
Therefore in such case you have to get to Shin-Kōbe station first, and transfer on the local line.
Note: If you are using a Japan Rail Pass, you cannot ride the Nozomi Shinkansen, so probably you have to transfer at Shin-Osaka,
as most of the Hikari trains (the fastest among the trains you may ride with the pass) terminate the journey in Osaka.
At Nishi-Akashi Station take a local train heading to Kōbe/Ōsaka/Kyōto and get off at Maiko Station.
Special rapid trains don’t stop here, so be careful when when you change train.
If you come from Kyōto, Ōsaka or Kōbe inland area you can reach Maiko Station with a local train heading to Nishi-Akashi/Himeji/Banshū-akō.
The ones who come from Ōsaka or Kyōto can reach Akashi Bridge in less time, by travelling on the limited express train of the Sanyo Railway (which is not a JR line, so no JR Pass on this train) to Kōbe Station and transferring then on a local train.
