Temples and shrines, Japan is literally filled with them. They are often integrated, in the same complex, marked by a red portal (torii) at the entrance. The most famous temples are those of Kyoto, such as the Kinkaku-ji, the Kiyomizu-dera, the Sensō-ji of Tokyo, and the Tōshō-gū of Nikko, but many other incredible complexes are hidden in the 47 prefectures of Japan.
