Miyajima is part of Hatsukaichi city, in Hiroshima Prefecture.
You can reach it by using Hiroshima as starting point, accessible from the whole country by Shinkansen.
The Nozomi Shinkansen gets to Hiroshima in about 4 hours from Tōkyō (or 80 minutes from Ōsaka).
From Hakata (Kyūshū) one hour is required.
If you come from Sapporo, Sendai, Naha etc. take a plane to Hiroshima Airport, laying 50 km east from the city.
Iwakuni Kintaikyō Airport, not far from Miyajima, is linked to Haneda with direct flights.
From the airports take the bus leading to Hiroshima city.
・From Hiroshima with JR
From Hiroshima Station, take the Sanyō main line to Miyajima-guchi Station (about 30 minutes).
Use the underground passage to exit the station, you will find the ferry terminal very close.
・From Hiroshima with the Hiroden tramway line
From Hiroshima-eki Station take the Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi line up to the last stop.
Compared to the JR line, this route is longer due to the number of stops.
Two companies run the ferry service from Miyajimaguchi: JR and Matsudai.
For the JR ferry you can use the Seishun 18 Kippu, as well as the Japan Rail pass (we remind you that the Japan Rail Pass can’t be used on Shinkansen Nozomi).
