Kiyomizu-dera is one of Japan’s most visited spots, it is easily reachable, also because of its position. The first step is, of course, getting to Kyōto.
If you come from Tōkyō or Hiroshima, the Shinkansen is probably the best choice. If you’re located in Ōsaka or Kōbe you can take a rapid or local line.
The closest airport is Ōsaka Prefecture’s Kansai International Airport.
The train station of Kiyomizu-dera is Kiyomizu-gojō on the Keihan line. This line connects Ōsaka’s Yodoyabashi and Kyōbashi Stations to Kyōto . We suggest to use this line if you come from Ōsaka.
From the station, a 25 minute-walk is required. If you want to avoid it, you can take a bus from Kyōto Station: take the bus 100 or 206 and get off at Gojō-zaka or Kiyomizu-michi stops (the journey takes about 15 minutes, but consider Kyōto’s traffic and leave in advance if you have a plan to follow).
From these bus stops you have to climb Higashi-yama’s slope for about 10-15 minutes before getting to Kiyomizu-dera in the top of the hill.
